The night between
Holy Thursday and Friday the
Sorrento Peninsula from Meta to Massa Lubrense hosts about 20
processions. These parades are organized by local confraternities, parading through the city streets.
The most striking and famous are definitely those that take place in
Sorrento. The
White Procession, which takes place during the night of Thursday, sees the participants wear white robes and their faces covered by a huge cap.

Black Procession instead sees the officiants hooded and dressed in black. It represents the ultimate in drama with the crucifixion and death of Christ. The solemn atmosphere is made even more sad by the choir of 200 voices of the
Miserere accompanying each step.
The origins of this religious festival dates back to 1500 and over the centuries have become the most popular shades. During the Spanish Viceroyalty were enriched with colors, lights, flags and symbols of the brotherhoods of the Mysteries, its Stations of the Cross.
